The Bentley University Office of Sustainability's mission is to mobilize sustainable leadership in business by:

1.Modeling sustainable organizational operations;
2.Supporting sustainability education both inside and outside of the classroom; and
3.Expanding career opportunities for Bentley's graduates.

We achieve this mission through collaborative partnerships with divisions across the university.

The Bentley University Office of Sustainability seeks a sustainability communications and engagement manager to write stories about sustainability on our campus and engage our community in actions identified in the university's Sustainability and Climate Action Plan. The successful candidate will use social media, short stories and other forms of content creation to share information and news with internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will also design creative and effective strategies to engage the Bentley community in the university's sustainability efforts.

Excellent communication is the key to engagement and to ensuring that our students understand the breadth of opportunities available to incorporate sustainability into their Bentley experience. An effective communications strategy will also ensure that external audiences (prospective students, parents, alumni and local neighbors) are aware of Bentley's leadership in modeling sustainable organizational operations and preparing students for careers in today's organizations and businesses that are grappling with sustainability challenges.

Essential Duties

The communications and engagement manager reports to the Director of Sustainability and will be responsible for the following essential functions:

Content Creation:

  • Overseeing and lead the Office of Sustainability's social media channels including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Producing or managing the production of the university's annual sustainability report, monthly reports and promotional materials.
  • Producing stories highlighting campus sustainability projects to be featured in the university's newsroom and promotional materials.
  • Engagement:

  • Overseeing and organizing or co-leading several events annually, aimed at faculty and staff engagement.
  • Strategy:

  • Together with the Office of Sustainability team, creating and managing the Office of Sustainability's communications strategy.
  • Supporting the Office of Sustainability team in implementation of the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan.
  • Working with internal partners to help with the implementation of the university's strategic plan as it relates to sustainability.
  • Management:

  • Co-managing the Office of Sustainability's Student Sustainability Leadership Program during the academic year.
  • Managing one, full-time intern during the summer.
  • Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) with at least two years of experience in a public relations, communications or marketing related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated understanding of sustainability.
  • Experience planning events and coordinating teams, hardworking and driven.
  • Experience working with an organization's social media accounts.
  • Experience using the Adobe suite, Microsoft Suite of tools.
  • Experience with and/or demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Ability to work well in a fun team environment, including at least three days per week on Bentley University's campus, in a way that develops positive relationships across the university.
  • Work Environment:

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
  • Ability to travel around campus for meetings and other work-related events and duties.
  • Position will require some night and weekend work.
